Postcrossing: Fanruihua from China

Fanruihua's card features a photograph of Xidi, Yi County of the Huizhou Region in China's Anhui Province. Xidi is best known for its historical villages, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 as part of the "Ancient Villages in Southern Anhui".

There are over 120 well-preserved wooden houses still standing in Xidi today, all of which were built way back in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Most of the residences have been opened to the public and are rather popular among tourists who find themselves in the area.

How I wish Fanruihua sent me a clearer photo of Xidi, since I love historical places, but learning about this place is pretty much enough for me. I'm also glad that she took the time to write me a message on the back and include a pretty stamp of flying birds reminiscent of those in beautiful traditional Chinese paintings.
