Ah, Lunpia - another proof of similarities between my country's culture and other Southeast Asian countries', especially Indonesia.
In the Philippines - which is where I'm from, if you don't know yet - we have our version of Indonesia's lunpia called the - surprise, surprise - lumpia (yep, with an 'm'), and it's pretty much the same thing. Fried spring rolls. And it comes in different kinds: lumpiang shanghai, lumpiang sariwa, lumpiang hubad - oh gosh, this list goes on!
Interestingly, Indonesians also occasionally spell "lunpia" as "lumpia". The story behind it is that "lumpia" is derived from the real word "lunpia" - a Hokkien alternative term for "popiah" or fried spring rolls.
I guess I can credit this to our shared history and food culture, which is heavily influenced by the Chinese.
