This beauty came from Beata, who lives in Poland. A fan of paper cut art, she sent me a card (like, a real folded card in an envelope - not the standard postcard) featuring a design of it.

In Poland, there are two districts where modern paper cut art or "Wycinanki" (say: vee-chee-non-kee) flourished. In Kurpie, the paper is folded once and the designs are usually symmetrical, cut from a single sheet of coloured paper, with birds and spruce trees as the most common motifs. In Łowicz, the designs are more elaborate and a lot more colourful, since a piece of Łowicz paper cut art is composed of layers and layers of coloured paper.

The design on Beata's card is an example of the Łowicz paper cut art. While it's just a print of the actual finished product, you can already imagine how much work goes into completing a piece of wycinanki simply by looking at the intricacy of the design.

More wycinanki designs on the envelope! And check out the pretty
stamps Beata used!
